If MS want us to continue using IE for viewing Visio files, there isn't much I can do. There is also an Edge extension (pkibkidjfmpjodfchilfimjlegfgkmda), but it isn’t really integrated to edge so works about the same as the above method where you still need to save the file, then open the extension and browse and open the file, so a little easier than the onedrive method as it doesn’t matter where you save it but not worth deploying an extension for that little gain. Yes that "works", not sure I'll convince our users to go that way rather than just clicking "open".

Right click the OneDrive icon in the notification area,Ĭlick the ellipsis next to your newly added file.Ĭlick "view online" which opens it in your SharePoint OneDrive So rather than "open file" the process to open in edge is If you save, opening from wherever you save opens in IE, even saved to OneDrive. The "norm" appears to usually be to just click "open" If you need to edit Visio files use VSDX Annotator, designed to edit and annotate Visio files on a Mac.

when you click the vsdx, it prompts to open / save as per normal Edge behaviour. SmartDraw offers a powerful and easy-to-use solution for those looking for a Visio alternative on a Mac. We use a browser-based job tracking system where the vsd/vsdx files are sometimes attached to the job. I did read that page previously while looking for a solution.
